| Within a collection
a designer will create a variety of stories so that there
is a selection of looks to appeal to as wide a range of
buyers as possible. Generally there is something for everyone,
but themes tend to happen because designers and fabric
manufacturers have to predict so far ahead that they work
to a creative formula. |
|
A trend occurs when fashion writers
having seen over a hundred fashion shows per season,
start to group the work of designers in order to document
it effectively. Buyers are also taking note of the trends
and working out which will appeal to their customers.
Then it appears in the fashion magazines this creates
demand and interest and the boutiques and department
stores are ready to sell the garments that have been
so widely talked about.
|
| Very often trends start
as a result of a collective feeling - so it is not strange
that combats have been a big theme for quite a few seasons, when
the world seems to be on the verge of destruction! Interestingly
now with all the 50's influenced design, the catwalk is
chronicling a post war optimism and frivolity in exactly
the way it happened after the 1939 - 1945 war, which gave
us Dior's New Look. |
| Designers do respond to what is
going on around them, albeit often subconsciously and
we buy into it because it suits our mood. Sometimes themes
may seem rather diverse!. You may already have seen some
more extreme imagery in magazines and wonder what is in
it for you . Remember every theme is specially dressed
up to appear dramatic for the sake of photography and
impact. In reality it can be diluted to suit the individual.
You can style yourself with as much or as little of the
themes as you like. And that is where the high street
comes in. |
